Caduceus

The caduceus is the traditional symbol of Hermes and features two snakes winding around(sexual intercourse) an often winged staff. It is often mistakenly used as a symbol of medicine instead of the Rod of Asclepius, especially in the United States. The two-snake caduceus design has ancient and consistent associations with trade, eloquence, negotiation, alchemy and wisdom.

Other species of snakes were also mentioned in the medical literature: zaocys, the non-toxic black-striped snake (wushaoshe) was described in Yao Xing Ben Caoby Zhen Quan (ca. 600 A.D.), and the toxic white-patterned pit viper, agkistrodon (A. acutus, baihuashe or qishe) was described in Kai Bao Ben Cao by Mai Zhi in 973 A.D.  Among the earliest records of using snakes for food come from the Tang Dynasty (618–907 A.D.), including the meat of pythons and pit vipers.  It is likely that the more widespread use of snakes for food and medicine during the Tang period derived from the Indian culture.  The Tang Dynasty period is especially known for its willingness to accept foreign influences, including those from India and Arabia (in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, many animal substances were used as medicine).

This prayer can be found in the Jewish prayer book (siddur). The prayer will elevate the dream of the snake or snakeskin to a higher level to facilitate a stream of abundance from the crown of the Heavenly throne.

What's the fuzz about the mandrake root which is similar to the Asian's camote root? We all knew about the musical root. Every munch, down under there's a guaranteed art of sound . It makes me happy. I was mesmerized when I watched Harry Potter's Chamber of Secrets. There it was again. Screaming mandrake root being pulled out. Hogwarts students with ear muffs.  It makes me happy. My first knowledge about the mandrake root. Came from my sunday school bible study. Boring!!!  What is a mandrake root? They say it's a magickal root. So what is a mandrake root?

                                           

A mandrake is the root of a plant, historically derived either from plants ofgenus Mandragora found in the Mediterranean region, or from other species, such as Bryonia alba, the English mandrake, which have similar properties. The plants from which the root is obtained are also called "mandrakes". Mediterranean mandrakes are perennial herbaceous plants with ovate leaves arranged in a rosette, a thick upright root, often branched, and bell-shaped flowers followed by yellow or orange berries. They have been placed in different species by different authors. They are very variable perennial herbaceous plants with long thick roots (often branched) and almost no stem. The leaves are borne in a basal rosette, and are very variable in size and shape, with a maximum length of 45 cm (18 in). They are usually either elliptical in shape or wider towards the end (obovate), with varying degrees of hairiness.^[1]

Because mandrakes contain deliriant hallucinogenic tropane alkaloids and the shape of their roots often resembles human figures, they have been associated with a variety of superstitious practices throughout history. To 'activate' a dried mandrake root (i.e., to bring its powers out of hibernation), place it in some prominent location in the house and leave it there undisturbed for three days. Then place it in warm water and leave overnight. Afterwards, the root is activated and may be used in any magical practice. Germanic folk magick a mandrake root (called alraun) was treated as a poppet or as its own spirit worked with for good luck and enhanced magickal power, this poppet was called a manikin which means “little man“. It would be wrapped in cloth, offered food and drinks, bathed and placed in a special box. If you were to neglect the alraun, it is said that it would scream like a baby until you paid attention to it and gave it what it needed. I am excited to be working with VIDA. They present an outlet for artists from all over the world to have their art seen, appreciated and worn. I'm an unknown naive artist and paranormal photographer from the Philippines. My inspiration for SATORAXISMUNDI( Sower+ Wheel+ World= GOD) in my art came from my belief in the supernatural. That is magic and mythical creatures(Faeries,angels, genies, ghost & etc). I encountered while studying Basic Cathetical Formation at ICAM, San Carlos Seminary Complex and during my spirit questing days with my friend and mentor Sir Tony Perez.
